This is a blog about cats. Look, I'll just say it--I live with two cats that are more than just pets, they're family. They might even be smarter than my husband! They're fluffy and cute and some days all they want to do is play games or lounge around on the couch. But sometimes they misbehave; like me, they can be stuck in stubborn or naughty moods where everything I try seems to backfire on me. They're just cats, but they have human qualities that are sometimes really annoying, because the truth is that they know what to do to get attention. And nothing works better than rolling on their backs and doing the cutest thing in the world so I'll pick them up and pet them. Named Deuce and JD, these are their stories... (Guest Post) Smoky the Siberian Cat by Betty Whitehead How many times have you or your children said "I'm bored" or "There's nothing to do"? TV? Phone? Why not take along a book of feline poetry. It'll be like having a pet for the day. Read "Smoky The Siberian Cat" and you'll soon see why Smoky is called the Irresistible Dumpster Diver. Or, you could call him Pee Wee and see how that comes out. It's a poem by Betty Whitehead, and it's one of many in her book: Cats On A Pedestal (Guest Post) Siberian Cat Coda by Betty Whitehead If we're lucky we get to have our beloved feline for 10, maybe 15 years. But I have a friend who's been with his Siberian Cat Coda for over 21 years. My friend has met the man who created this poem. In fact, he met him twice. He was a stranger but he became a friend by the end of their time together. What does it mean to have a Siberian Cat? It could mean you're going to have a long and beautiful friendship. It could seem that these cats are "old souls". I love how Betty Whitehead puts it: "They may not look like angels, but if you think they're just ordinary cats--think again" Friendship is something that can be treasured for years and in some cases is never forgotten. That's why I wanted to share this poem. (Guest Post) The Last Siberian Cat by Elissa Tierney.
